Pink bought the house down during Sunday night's Tony Awards , performing an incredible opening number

Pink brought the house down during Sunday night’s Tony Awards, performing an incredible opening number.

In her first outing as host of the annual theatre awards at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, Pink, 46, revived her 2001 hit Lady Marmalade, switching up the lyrics to pay tribute to the leading ladies of Broadway.

Whilst she was joined by 170 Broadway performers including Moulin Rouge! The Musical star Megan Thee Stallion, there was no sign of her co-singers from the 2001 version of the iconic track.

25 years ago Pink recorded Labelle’s Lady Marmalade with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim and Mya as part of the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge movie, but the arguments in the recording studio sparked a years-long feud between Pink and Christina, 45.

Viewers watching The Tonys declared Pink’s new performance ‘felt like a 25 y/o grudge Pink had about not being able to sing the Christina part in Lady Marmalade.’

One impressed fan added: ‘This makes me chuckle considering her beef with Christina Aguilera was because she got the “best part” in this song so good for you Pink for finally getting to be the star in this song…’

‘I know Pink loved this cause she was the leading vocalist like she wanted to be instead of it being Christina Aguilera. This was cute and I’m glad Pink got to live out the moment on national tv.’

‘Pink knocked it out of the park and through the stratosphere this was the greatest opening number I’ve ever seen,’ gushed another.

Whilst the pair have since made up, Pink has been vocal about her conflict with Christina over the years, recalling how it all started when record label executives wanted to give Christina more verses on their shared single.

During her VH1 Behind the Music documentary, Pink claimed: ‘Ron Fair walked in. He didn’t say hi to any of us and said, “What’s the high part? What’s the most singing part? Christina’s going to take that part.”‘

‘I stood up, and I said, “Hi. How are you? So nice of you to introduce yourself. I’m Pink.”‘

‘”She will not be taking that part. I think that’s what the f**king meeting’s about.”‘

Christina meanwhile gave her side of the events, telling MTV that ‘it was almost like we were too much of the same person. When people are too much the same person, they kind of butt heads a little bit.’

Fast forward to 2023 and during an interview with Buzzfeed, Pink ranked her collaboration with Christina at the bottom of her favorite music videos list, admitting ‘it wasn’t very fun to make’ because there was ‘a lot of fuss.’

During a follow-up interview on Chris Wallace’s talk show she elaborated that ‘back then, our personalities did not mix at all.’

Recalling an incident on the set of the Lady Marmalade music video, Pink claimed that Christina ‘was upset that I was sitting in her chair and was going to shut down the entire production.’

‘I didn’t know I was sitting in her chair. I was also homeless at 15. You can’t talk to me any kind of way. You picked the wrong one.’

‘But that’s over. It’s an interesting story, but it probably happens every day in every workplace. Some people just don’t get along, and then they figure it out and they realise what’s important and they hug it out and move on.’

She insisted that the two have since made up, saying ‘we hugged it out and kissed it out and we have many times since.’

Pink added that she didn’t ever see her past comments as ‘shade’ against Christina, explaining ‘where people get it twisted with me is that if you ask me a question I’m going to answer it honestly.’

‘I’m going to tell you my experience of how it happened. That’s not shade, that’s just honesty. I should know better by now that total honesty doesn’t work in this world.’

‘People want to hear nice things and want you to clean it all up for them and that’s just not my way.’
