Liberals are starting to boycott celebrations of America’s 250th birthday. 

They are calling Donald Trump’s cleaning up of Washington, D.C., monuments “vanity projects.” Turning the reflecting pool from an opaque, algae-infested eyesore into a gleaming pool that reflects the scenes around it—for only a few million dollars, as opposed to the hundreds of millions it has cost to repair in the past—enrages them. 





Their claim? Trump is destroying things. 

Well, I can tell you that Republicans were not exactly happy about Obama’s tenure as president, and Biden made Obama look like a saint, but during neither of these periods did Republicans stop saying that they were proud to be Americans. 

Democrats only have any sort of sentimental attachment to America when they feel like they have total ideological control over it because they’re Liberals, and Liberals ultimately have no nation of their own.

Trump didn’t drain the soul out of anything. Democrats just adopted an ideology that dissolves the nation and leaves its own adherents increasingly atomized and mentally ill.

When Europeans diss America, Republicans give them the finger. When Euros diss America, Democrats nod along and apologize. 

The difference? It’s simple: liberals’ allegiance to America is totally conditional on their getting their way. If they don’t get their way, they do more than pout; they hate. 

These days, many events set up by liberals or at liberal institutions begin with a recitation of some American crime against humanity. They talk about how America is built on an immoral foundation. 





This isn’t what I am saying. This is what liberals are saying about their country. 

Of course, being critical of things you disapprove of can be patriotic. When we talk about leaving your community better off than when you found it, it obviously implies that it can be improved. Fighting for your values is a key component of being a good citizen in a liberal democracy. 

But if your goal is not to improve it, but to replace it, and you are open about disdaining your society if it doesn’t give in to your demands, then it can’t be called patriotic. It is something else. 

That’s OK. You are allowed in a free country to hate it, but we are also allowed to say you aren’t patriotic. 

The flag shouldn’t be complicated for any of us. I fly one outside my house now, and did when Biden and Obama were president. My allegiance to this country isn’t predicated on winning every election or policy dispute. 

It shouldn’t be for anyone.
