We’ve all heard of Fatface. But unlike a lot of our British style stalwarts this haunt is still holding up the high street from Stratford-Upon-Avon, to York, Edinburgh and County Mayo. My mum loves it, and so does my granny. And since seeing its spring/summer offering, I’ve become a FatFace fanatic myself.

The brand started across the English Channel in the French ski resort of Méribel in 1988, where Tim Slade and Jules Leaver sold printed t-shirts and sweatshirts from a campervan to fund their skiing lifestyle.

Today it has over 190 stores across the UK and – thanks to its high-quality, timeless wardrobe staples – it posted a £3.8m pre-tax profit at the end of last year, with revenues still rising.

This month it’s launched a new complimentary styling service, called “Face to Face”, across six locations including Belfast, Chester and Derby, which connects customers with stylists, who will offer personalised outfitting advice. Plus, FatFace has a new Whatsapp customer service channel where shoppers can liaise directly with staff.

And the clothes have had a glow-up too. From supple suede jackets, to the fashion pack’s favourite linen trousers, wedding-guest worthy dresses and the swimsuit that’s set to be a sell-out, here’s what I’m putting in my basket.

Snap up this swimwear

Chocolate brown with polka dots? This one-piece is right on trend. With beaded adjustable straps and tie gathers so you can customise the fit around your hips and legs, whatever your size or age this clever swimwear is going to flatter your figure. Or if you prefer a bikini, this print comes as a two-piece. Run, don’t walk!

Summer knits

When the weather finally stops teasing us, I’ll put away my knits. But until then, I want this excellent shrimp motif cardi for chilly al fresco evenings. Better yet, a tank top will work fabulously over a shirt for brisk early morning commutes. Or be brave and bare your arms in the bronze Bree vest, with your favourite jeans for an evening-ready outfit.

It-girl linen

Linen is your next best bet for comfort and style when it comes to summer trousers. The wide-leg Arie style with inverted pleats comes in navy and white – I’ve got both – and will look just as good with a plain white t-shirt as it will a frothy blouse. Other linen hits include the sage green Julia popover and the flirty Darcy blouse.

Fabulous frocks

Playful prints are king in the dress department. Graphic, rather than ditsy florals, are always sure to garner compliments. From pin, to deckchair and Breton, stripes are just as popular. If you’re after a wedding guest worthy style, look no further than the Mischa. Just pair it with some metallic block heels, a raffia clutch bag and you’re good to go.

More layers!

There are only a finite number of days in the year where it’s dry and warm enough to wear a suede jacket. Milk them while you can! The timeless beige Erin is top of my wishlist. It’s an investment buy, but the beauty of this fabric is that it only gets better with age. Quilted styles have also made a major comeback this spring. But if you’re concerned you’ll resemble a duvet, try a classic khaki shacket instead.
