Armie Hammer was paid somewhere ‘in the ballpark of $250,000’ to star in a new anti-migrant movie being hailed by the online right for its anti-Muslim messaging, a source within the actor’s camp has revealed.
Hammer, 39, plays a self-appointed avenger in the film, titled Citizen Vigilante. His character, frustrated with a failed legal system, purges Croatia’s streets of ‘violent criminals, corrupt judges, and migrant gangs’ via a series of executions.
Hammer was brought to tears after the first time he watched the film in full, the insider told Puck’s Matthew Belloni for the latest edition of his newsletter.
‘He called me and said, “F**k. This is hateful, disgusting.”‘
The star was also said to be ‘desperate for work’ when he took the part.
‘The first time he saw it, he was in tears,’ the source said.
Hammer has faced cancellation since being accused of sexual assault by multiple women in 2021.
Belloni, widely known as Hollywood’s go-to source for insider information, was also told the tone of the movie took the actor by surprise.

The film takes a harsh view toward immigration and crime, and has been banned in Germany for anti-Muslim messaging
‘I think he knew it certainly leaned toward the right, but [director] Uwe [Boll] works in a very frantic way,’ the source said.
The film features a scene where Hammer’s character executes an entire family of Syrian migrants – father, mother, brother, sister – inside their own apartment.
Hammer told the Hollywood Reporter last month how the German filmmaker sent him a scant, 50-page script.
When Hammer saw the finished product, ‘he freaked the f**k out,’ Belloni’s source remembered.
They recalled the actor exclaiming, ‘That was not the movie I thought we made.’
Boll is often credited as one of the ‘worst’ directors alive.
The film has already been banned in the director’s native Germany, while securing a cult following for its depiction of Hammer as a folk hero fed-up with rampant crime and a relaxed approach to immigration.
The film has amassed so much attention (Elon Musk personally posted it in full on X for 48 hours after its release last month) that it’s already being bolstered by a sequel, Belloni reported.

The sequel is currently in preproduction stages, sources said.
The source within Hammer’s team indicated the actor – despite his reaction – is open to starring again if the price is right.
‘It would have to be life-changing money. Everyone has a breaking point,’ they said, adding that finding a small independent movie with enough weight to help Hammer’s Hollywood return has been like ‘looking for a needle in a haystack.’
Belloni also revealed that he met with Hammer for lunch in Los Angeles in early 2024 in hopes of securing an on-the-record interview. The idea was abandoned, after ‘about an hour of semi-awkward small talk,’ according to the journalist.
Hammer told Belloni he was unsuccessfully trying to sell timeshares in the Cayman Islands, where he now lives to be near his now-ex-wife, Elizabeth Chambers, and their two children.
At that point, he was working as a sober companion, Belloni said.
Hammer and Chambers split in 2023, after claims ranging from cannibalism to rape upended his career.
The actor has consistently denied the claims, and in June 2023, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office declined to press charges against him, citing insufficient evidence.
