Big, Beautiful Dallas Midterm Convention Will Be a ‘Rally Like None Other’ – RedState

This year’s midterm elections are crucial. These may well be the most consequential midterms in modern history, certainly since World War II; and if the Republican agenda is to have any chance of winning, then the GOP has to hold or, preferably, expand their majorities. If they don’t… Well, expect a Democrat Congress to not only engage in all kinds of socialist nitwittery, but to drag the nation into an Impeach-a-Palooza that will make 2020 look like nothing.

No, the GOP has to win; they have to win convincingly, and to help with that, to help make sure that Republicans have all of their web-footed waterfowl arranged in a linear fashion before the elections, President Trump has announced something that the GOP hasn’t done before: A midterm convention.

The Associated Press reports:

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Republicans will hold their first-ever national convention ahead of November’s midterm elections, an unusual event aimed at boosting turnout in races that will decide whether the party maintains control of Congress.

The convention will be held in Dallas on Sept. 9 and 10.

Although both major parties traditionally hold blockbuster conventions during presidential campaigns, Trump has long floated the idea of a similar gathering this year to focus voters’ attention on a sprawling collection of House and Senate races.

It’s not a bad idea.

The GOP Is Raising Big Bucks for the Mid-Terms, but Is a 100-Seat House Gain Really Feasible?

Early September has been the traditional beginning of the campaign season. It’s long been the accepted wisdom in politics that serious campaigning begins after Labor Day, after the end of the summer vacation season, when people who aren’t serious political junkies start paying more attention to the candidates and what they say. So the timing for this is good, and bear in mind that the traditional conventions have as their primary purpose choosing a presidential candidate, even though the actual candidate is normally well known by then.

This year, though? There’s one thing that Republicans have to do, one goal that this convention should be focused on, and it’s something the Democrats have traditionally been better at: Sticking together. This is an effort worth making, especially with Democrats inexplicably nominating a wave of “democratic socialist” candidates in this year’s Congressional races.

The National Republican Campaign Committee has weighed in; they’re down with it.

If we have learned anything from this year’s battles over ley legislation, especially the SAVE America Act, currently stagnating in the Senate, is that the GOP is going to have to not just hold, but expand their majorities. That’s not an easy task in a midterm. Most years, just holding the majority is a challenge enough, but if Republicans lose either the House or the Senate, the Trump agenda ends at that point. As in, done. Finished. Kaput.

No, the GOP has to win this one, and convincingly. If that means putting on a show for the voters, then that’s what should be done. But most of all, the GOP has to learn to stick together. No more herding of cats. If an unprecedented midterm convention can help the GOP get its feces cohesive and get everyone on message, then it’s worth doing.

As for we voters: This November, if you have to crawl for a mile through scrap iron and busted glass on your hands and knees to vote, then that’s what we’d better be prepared to do. This time, the fate of the republic may well depend on it.
