D-U-M-B: Trump gives spelling lesson as he works on nicknames for his rivals

President Donald Trump polled his Truth Social followers and played educator as he asked whether they prefer the nickname “Dumocrat” or “Dumbocrat” for his political opponents.

The president, who shared the survey Saturday morning, also gave his followers a spelling lesson, claiming that “many people don’t know” how to spell “dumb.”

“POLL: Which do you prefer, Dumocrat or Dumbocrat? In one case, you simply exchange the ‘e’ for ‘u,’ so simple and precise (Many people don’t know, or assume, that DUMB ends in ‘b’),” the president wrote. “In the other case, you spell out DUMB, but it seems to lose some of the identity to Democrats when done this way. Which is better?”

Trump often coins derisive nicknames for his enemies, and “Dumocrat” appears to be the latest on his list, after he used it in several recent speeches and social media posts.

More than 60,000 users had voted as of Saturday afternoon.

That wasn’t the only question Trump had for his followers. He shared another poll an hour later, asking whether he should rebrand Immigration and Customs Enforcement by adding the word “National” to its title, so that its personnel are called “NICE agents,” rather than “ICE agents.”

Trump said he’s considering the change because of the “hostility” towards ICE agents, caused by “Dumocrats and the Fake News.” He also claimed that switching to “NICE” would “totally discombobulate Crooked, Dishonest, and Unpatriotic Reporters and Journalists.”

“For them to say, ‘We went to a NICE Facility today,’ as opposed to ‘ICE’ or, ‘NICE Agents have deported a Violent Drug Dealer,’ they won’t be able to handle it, they will go totally crazy,” the president wrote.

“All it means is adding an ‘N’ (’National’) to ‘ICE (‘Immigration and Customs Enforcement’) — A much more prestigious name,” he continued. “Everyone loves it, but I have been told by the legendary Tom Homan that the Agents do not love it as much as the other population. Who thinks that we should add an ‘N’ to change the name of ‘ICE’ to ‘NICE?’”

The Trump administration’s hardline immigration agenda has sparked anti-ICE protests across the country over the last year and a half. The anger hit its strongest point during immigration raids in Minnesota when two Americans were shot dead. An NBC News poll from February also found that nearly three-quarters of U.S. adults want some changes to ICE, with 29 percent saying it should be abolished entirely.

The poll had received more than 45,000 votes as of Saturday afternoon.

The president floated the idea in a Truth Social post two months ago, and the White House’s official X account has since shared memes supporting the change. But Trump has also acknowledged that the agency’s staff might not be fans of the proposal.

“But I’m not sure that the guys liked it, because … I think they like their image of being strong, and they’ve done a great job,” he said during an interview with WABC in May.
