Don Jr makes surprise appearance at Tyler Robinson hearing as Erika Kirk breaks down in tears at first sight of her husband's killer: Live updates

Donald Trump Jr. made a surprise appearance at Tyler Robinson’s hearing today as the 23-year-old stands accused of murdering Charlie Kirk.

Kirk’s widow Erika, sat a few rows behind his parents in court, wept as she leaned on his mother’s shoulder for comfort.

The five-day preliminary hearing is the first time members of Kirk’s family are in the courtroom with alleged assassin Robinson.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Robinson and will argue that he should stand trial for murder.

Robinson is charged with aggravated murder in the September 10 assassination of Kirk, who was shot dead while addressing a crowd of thousands during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University.

The accused killer turned himself in after the shooting and prosecutors allege that he also sent a text message confession to his partner.

He has not entered a plea in the case. His attorneys have not commented on his guilt or innocence.

The president’s son once said Charlie Kirk was ‘like a brother to me,’ and spoke at the conservative activist’s funeral.

In December 2025, Kirk’s wife Erika and Trump Jr. shared the stage as key speakers at the Turning Point USA Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

Infuriating ways woke activists who were fired for mocking Charlie Kirk murder got the last laugh

In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s horrific murder, an ugly specter emerged: people, perversely, celebrating his death.

In fact, more than 600 Americans were fired from their jobs over their negative reactions to Kirk’s murder, according to a November 2025 Reuters investigation.

Charlie Kirk’s rarely-seen parents arrive at court

Charlie Kirk’s parents, Robert and Kathryn Kirk, made a rare public appearance to attend this week’s crucial court hearing for their son’s accused killer.

The couple arrived arm in arm at the Fourth District Courthouse on Monday.

It is the first time that Kirk’s family will be in the courtroom with Tyler Robinson, the man accused of killing him.

Before Kirk became one of the best-known conservatives in America and a key ally to Donald Trump, he was raised by his moderate parents in Illinois.

Kirk’s mother, Kathryn, was reportedly a mental health counselor, and his father, Robert, worked in the construction business and owned his own architecture firm.

His resume included work as a project architect manager on Trump Tower in Manhattan, reports PrimeTimer.

After his death, Senator Marsha Blackburn posted a photo with Kirk’s parents when Trump honored Charlie with a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom in October.

Foul protester dressed as Charlie Kirk re-enacts his assassination as crowds chant ‘he deserved to die’ while widow Erika spoke at conference

A protester outside of a Turning Point USA conference in Texas last month was seen in shocking footage dressed as Charlie Kirk and re-enacting his death while crowds were chanting ‘he deserved to die.’

The Turning Point USA Women’s Leadership Summit, hosted by Kirk’s widow Erika, saw large amounts of opposition.

Among the protesters rallying outside of the event’s doors, one was seen in what appeared to be a paper-mache head covering made to resemble Kirk, who was assassinated in September last year.

The protester was captured falling to the floor, seemingly to mock Kirk’s death, in footage circulating online as they allegedly chanted that the podcaster ‘deserved to die.’
