Baseball fans were left furious when NBC bumped Sunday Night Football

Baseball fans were left furious when they tuned into NBC on Sunday night expecting to see one of the greatest rivalry showdowns in MLB.

The network’s Sunday Night baseball was scheduled to broadcast the last of the four-game series between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

The coverage was expected to begin at 7pm ET ahead of the first pitch at 7:20pm. However, when baseball fans switched on their televisions at the allotted time, they were shocked to discover golf was playing instead.

The PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship suffered a lengthy weather delay during Sunday’s round after thunderstorms rolled in over Connecticut.

The final day of play was suspended for nearly 90 minutes, way past the 7pm start time of Sunday Night Baseball.

Play at the golf tournament did not resume until 7:20pm as the light started to fade. However, rather than switch to the baseball pregame coverage of the Yankees-Red Sox, NBC opted to stick with golf.

NBC showed replays of the on-course action from earlier in the day and even switched to the Women’s PGA Championship rather than show the baseball.

Instead, fans could only watch the Yankees-Red Sox game on Peacock and NBCSN.

What’s more, the golf didn’t even reach a conclusion. Fans were left in suspense after Scottie Scheffler nailed an eight-foot putt on the 18th to force a playoff against Viktor Hovland, which will take place on Monday morning.

Fans were left furious at the decision with many taking to social media to vent their frustration.

‘Was listening on radio for the first couple of innings, came home and threw on NBC only to find that they were showing golf instead of Red Sox-Yankees,’ one fan wrote on X. ‘RIVALRY!’

‘This is absolutely B*****T that the Yankees game isn’t on NBC right now. Unacceptable,’ another fumed. ‘This should not be allowed to happen.’

Another responded to the above post, adding: ‘You want Sunday Night Baseball you broadcast Sunday Night Baseball. You don’t finish a golf tournament four people care about on NBC. Took me 25 minutes to figure out my peacock log in info for my outside tv.’

‘Once again NBC has disrupted Sunday night baseball, thus time for a golf outing on the National broadcast instead of Yanks/ Red Sox .Maybe by the 4th inning you will get to see Rodon verses Grey.Torture for Sunday night baseball fans,’ wrote another.

‘Yankees fans are about to unleash all of their frustrations on this golf tournament,’ claimed another. ‘Imagine airing golf over the Yankees/Red Sox game.’

The Red Sox went on to clinch a 5-4 win over their bitter rivals thanks to a walk-off home run by Jarren Duran in the 10th inning.
