As we reported, the socialists had a big win in New York City on Tuesday; far-left candidates backed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani won their primaries. Because it’s deep blue NYC, that means they will likely win the general elections, and we’ll all have to deal with them in Congress.
It’s truly disturbing how far left the Democrats have become, and one of those Congressional candidates is a real example of that.

If you thought Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) was bad, she pales in comparison to how extreme socialist Darializa Avila Chevalier, the Democratic nominee for NY-13, is. She’s currently a Ph.D. student at City University of New York.
She had all kinds of deleted social media posts calling to abolish police, prisons, and borders. She also reportedly called America a “f**king disgrace,” and said in an X post, “I forgot to get napkins so I just wiped my hand on the American flag behind me.”
But don’t worry, folks, she’s “grown” since those comments she made as an adult, she claims. It’s the “Platner defense” – just disregard all those things.
Also, forget she was one of the people who helped launch the Columbia University Apartheid Divest group when she was at Columbia in 2016. In 2024, that group said, “We are Westerners fighting for the total eradication of Western civilization,” in a now-deleted Instagram post.
Let’s look at the unhinged things Chevalier’s saying now. She doesn’t believe in deportations, even for people who have committed crimes. She has some bizarre take that it would somehow be “double jeopardy” to deport them. This was challenged by a moderator during a debate with five-term incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat.
Darializa Avila Chevalier is part of the wave of DSA-backed candidates that won primaries in NYC last night.
She believes in zero deportations — even if an illegal committed murder.

Here she is saying she still believes “all deportations are wrong.” And she doesn’t seem to understand that illegal entry into the country is a crime.
I asked DSA congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier (NY-13) about several of her previously deleted tweets, including one that read that “all deportations are wrong.”

If those weren’t enough, there’s the way she responds to MS NOW’s Ali Velshi about how she would respond to allegations that she’s a communist. Talk about a Kamala Harris word salad; she’s right there with her.
Velshi: “How do you respond to allegations that you’re a communist?”
Darializa Avila Chevalier: “For far too long, this reactive conversation of what we should be afraid of has prevented us from being able to have a politics Democrats can identify win.” pic.twitter.com/sAKGmQcYju

“That framing is one that I’ve been very proud to be able to say I don’t respond to, one in which I have been very intentional to say I won’t be reactive.” Avila Chevalier replied.
We are presenting a vision of what we are fighting for. And I think that for far too long we have had politics that is reactive to what Republicans are doing. What we need is Democrats who are actually going to present a positive vision, one that sets the tone for what we should be talking about, which is the issue of affordability, which is the issue of how our budgets are moral documents. If we say we want to invest in working people in this country, then we need to do that, and our budgets need to reflect that. If we say we value immigration justice, we need to make sure that that is also reflective in our policy.
She said she was “very proud” of a campaign that “centered those ideals.”
For far too long, this reactive conversation of what we should be afraid of, has prevented us from being able to have a politics of hope and a politics of life that Democrats can actually identify with.
That’s one heck of a lot of words to say you wouldn’t answer the question.
This is the face of where Democrats are now.
