Longtime Democrat megadonor John Morgan, who recently shifted to an independent, has a warning for the Democrats: Gavin Newsom should not be the nominee unless he moves to the center, and an endorsement from former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi would be the “kiss of death” for Newsom’s presidential aspirations.
Morgan is mainly known in California for his ads promoting his law firm “Morgan & Morgan.” On Monday, he appeared on News Nation’s “Cuomo.” He told Cuomo and viewers that Newsom is “far far left” and “far far woke,” and that he would need to move to the center to have a chance to win the 2028 presidential election.
“Here’s what I think about Newsom. … He’s perfect for the look. What I worry for him, and I’ve told this to the Speaker [Pelosi] … he [Newsom] decided to be the Democratic version of Donald Trump. You wanna be mean? I’ll be mean. You wanna be nasty? I’ll be nasty. … I told her, and I believe this, I think that’s a bad strategy. I think that by the time we get into 2028, America is going to be sick of meanness, and chaos, and that type of banter. … It’s a long race, he’s got to be careful not to sprint too fast. His second problem, Chris, is going to be this: Undoing everything he was for in California. Remember 350-thousand dollars in reparations for each African American? He’s going to have to run from his woke. … His problem is, his record is far far left and far far woke.”
🚨NEW: Longtime Dem Megadonor John Morgan *SOUNDS ALARM* about Gavin Newsom’s 2028 prospects🚨

Morgan is right about Newsom having to undo what he stood for as governor; however, his record when it comes to the rise in homelessness, even after spending millions of dollars to address it, the rise in crime after endorsing radical district attorneys, the rise in housing costs, insurance, electricity costs, and gas prices, as well as the incredibly poor response to the Los Angeles wildfires should and likely will come back to haunt him in the primaries. If he somehow makes it out of the primaries, he will be hammered on his record in the general election.

Another problem for Newsom will be winning swing states, such as Arizona and Nevada, for starters. Many Californians who fled the state due to Newsom’s disastrous policies went to those two states. It is highly unlikely any of those people will ever vote for Newsom to become president. That will undoubtedly hurt his chances. Democrats in states such as Pennsylvania will prefer candidates like Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) over Newsom, and if a Democrat can’t win in Arizona, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, the path to the White House would be extremely narrow.
It is still very early in the 2028 primary process, but if a longtime Democrat megadonor, who has distanced himself as of late is already throwing cold water on Newsom, it’s going to be a long primary season for him, as the Democrat side is expected to have dozens of candidates lining up to try to convince voters as to why they should become the 48th President of the United States.
