Democrats were already a mess before their primaries on Tuesday.
But the results in the races in New York City, with the socialist wins, have really turned the party on its head. Democrats opened the door to a big problem that could consume them.
The socialists were feeling their oats and chanting at House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, “You’re next!”

Now, Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) has pointed a finger at the leadership during an appearance on SiriusXM’s “Straight Shooter” on Wednesday with host Stephen A. Smith.
Slotkin laid out the problem: “Every day there’s a debate within the party about the path forward.”
“That’s why I believe we need significant new leadership,” she said. “The old models are no longer working, and that includes the Democratic Party.”
The senator likened her party to a “circular firing squad,” where “everyone is reacting to the crisis, but too few people are talking about what they actually want to accomplish.”
“To me, that’s a fundamental failure of leadership,” she urged.
Smith pressed her on whether she was calling for Jeffries and Schumer to be replaced.
“I’m saying that if people can’t recognize that the game has fundamentally changed and can’t adapt, then they need to make room for others who can,” she responded.
Slotkin also appeared to praise President Donald Trump for focusing on the issues.
“To me, the lesson was simple. Democrats had too many priorities. They tried to make everyone happy and answer every question. When you prioritize everything, no one knows what you actually stand for,” Slotkin told Stephen A. Smith.
In contrast, “Donald Trump came in with one clear message. He said, ‘I’m going to make your life more affordable. I’m going to put more money in your pocket’. … He won because he kept his message simple and focused on the issue Americans cared most about.”
I wonder if she’s aiming to be one of the new “leaders” here, if they toss out the old.
While she’s right that they need new leaders and aren’t focusing on the right things, she’s wrong that they have “too many priorities.” The problem has been that they have had two goals: their own power and attacking Trump. That’s all they’ve cared about for years, and people know that. She’s right that they haven’t focused on what the people want. What does the “old models are no longer working” mean? You mean you’re surprised when people are not enamored of the confusion and the extremism your party has represented?
They’ve now learned they should talk about “affordability’ to hoodwink people into thinking they care. But then they vote for socialists and Democrats who say crazy redistributionist things about grabbing Elon Musk’s money, showing they don’t understand the proper policies to get to any solutions. It isn’t just about using the right buzzwords that you think people want to hear; it’s about doing the right things.
The Democrats have been stoking this extremism for years — they’re the ones who have put the country in danger because of it. Even now, you have Democrats willing to welcome in extremists, even those who would wipe their hands on the American flag, saying we’re about a “big tent.”

Don’t be surprised then that Americans reject you when your tent is that big.
