On Monday, a woman dropped some big allegations on Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee for the Senate in Maine.
Jenny Racicot accused Platner of raping her in 2021, according to a story Politico broke. Platner is denying the allegations.
This has already prompted some of Platner’s biggest supporters to desert him. Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17) has withdrawn his endorsement, saying accusations of “violence” were a red line for him. Of course, there had already been allegations of violence with Lyndsey Fifield’s accusations, but that didn’t stop Khanna previously.

Now, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) Chairwoman Kirsten Gillibrand have called on Graham Platner to “immediately withdraw.”
“The allegations reported today are incredibly disturbing – violence, abuse and sexual assault are absolutely unacceptable,” the New York Democrats said in a statement released by the DSCC. [….]
The senators warned that Senate Democrats’ campaign and fundraising arm “will not invest in the Maine Senate race if Platner remains on the ballot.”
So Platner wouldn’t have money if he stayed in. Just a little effort to assist in his “reflection” on whether to drop out.

The Maine Democratic Party Leadership also pulled its support, along with End Citizens United, Semafor congressional bureau chief Burgess Everett reported on X.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who had said Platner was “her kind of man,” also pulled her support and called on him to step aside.

Sen. Warren has seen enough:
“Now more than ever we need leaders in Washington who reflect our values. There can be no tolerance for sexual assault. Working families are counting on Democrats to win the Senate election in Maine to unrig our economy and hold Donald Trump accountable. With so much at stake, the best path forward is for Graham Platner to step aside as the Democratic nominee and address these serious allegations outside this Senate race”
On top of that, the accuser, Jenny Racicot, did an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, and gave further details of the alleged rape. Tapper shot down the Platner team’s claim that the story was a result of “out-of-state operatives.” He said he called her because she was mentioned in the earlier NY Times story about Platner that came out in June. She said she had been hesitant to come forward because of the intrusion on her privacy.
Ro Khanna and numerous other Democrats have dropped their endorsements of Graham Platner just in time.

Racicot explained it was a big moral conflict for her because she supported positions he held, but obviously had issues with him as a person. This wasn’t long ago; it was just five years ago.
She said she had told him no, she didn’t want him to come over, but he did anyway, entering her house, which was unlocked. He had intentions with her, was heavily intoxicated, and wasn’t listening when she said “no.” There was a struggle, and a sewing kit was knocked over. She said she was concerned for her own safety, but told him not to touch her. While she normally would use protection, she explained that he did not here.
Platner didn’t seem to recall what had happened, she asserted, and she told him he had to leave and she never wanted to talk to him again.
It was “absolutely” rape, she charged.
