NASCAR Legend Kyle Busch Passes Away at 41 – RedState

Shocking news in the NASCAR community on Thursday as legendary driver Kyle Busch has passed away from an undisclosed illness at the age of 41.

NASCAR, the Busch family, and Richard Childress Racing (RCR) put out a joint statement that read:

“On behalf of the Busch family, everyone at Richard Childress Racing and all of NASCAR, we are devastated to announce the sudden and tragic passing of Kyle Busch.

“Our entire NASCAR family is heartbroken by the loss of Kyle Busch. A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation. He was fierce, he was passionate, he was immensely skilled and he cared deeply about the sport and fans. Throughout a career that spanned more than two decades, Kyle set records in national series wins, won championships at NASCAR’s highest level and fostered the next generation of drivers as an owner in the Truck Series. His sharp wit and competitive spirit sparked a deep emotional connection with race fans of every age, creating the proud and loyal ‘Rowdy Nation.’ Our thoughts are with Samantha, Brexton and Lennix, Kyle and Samantha’s parents, Kurt and all of Kyle’s family, Richard and Judy Childress, everyone at Richard Childress Racing, his teammates, friends and fans. NASCAR lost a giant of the sport today, far too soon.

“During this incredibly difficult time, we ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy and continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Further updates will be shared as appropriate.”

Earlier, NASCAR had posted on social media just before 6 pm ET that “We are saddened and heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and one of our sport’s greatest and fiercest drivers.”

The cause of death is unknown. But earlier in the day, the Busch family shared news on X that “Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization. He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this situation.”

Right after, RCR made the following announcement:

Kyle Busch’s health is our upmost priority and he and his family have the full resources of RCR behind them. Kyle is an integral part of our organization and we wish him a safe and speedy recovery. His No. 8 Chevrolet will be ready and waiting for him. We’re thankful to Austin Hill for stepping in to drive the No. 8 Chevrolet this weekend. Please keep Kyle and the Busch family in your prayers, and help us respect the family’s privacy at this time.

NBC Sports noted that he had been sick at a race he took part in ten days ago:

During a Cup Series race on May 10 at Watkins Glen, Busch radioed in to his crew requesting medical aid from Dr. Bill Heisel and a “shot” after the race. According to the TV broadcast, Busch had been struggling with a sinus cold that was exacerbated by the intense G-forces and elevation changes at the Upstate New York road course.

Busch continued to race and finished eighth.

Busch is survived by his wife, Samantha, and his two kids, daughter Lennix (4) and son Brexton, who turned 11 three days ago:

Kyle Busch’s brother, Kurt, was also a NASCAR champion before officially retiring from competition in 2023 after suffering a concussion during a July 2022 qualifying event.

Kyle Busch posted this photo and message on Mother’s Day:

My girls deserve the spotlight today. 💕

Happy Mother’s Day to Samantha and my Mom! Thank You both for the love, patience, strength, and everything you pour into our family every single day.

And Happy Birthday to our crazy Lennix. You keep us laughing, keep us on our toes, and somehow make every day brighter at the same time.

I’m lucky to do life with you girls. Love you all more than you know!! 😘

Thoughts and prayers go out to the Busch family at this incredibly difficult time.
