Champion Foods has recalled its Motor City Pizza Co 5 Cheese Bread product as it may be contaminated with salmonella

A popular Costco frozen food product has been voluntarily recalled over salmonella fears.

Champion Foods has recalled its Motor City Pizza Co 5 Cheese Bread product as the milk powder used in the product may have been contaminated with salmonella.

The milk powder is provided through a third-party manufacturer, California Dairies. The product is used in the seasoning blend in the Motor City sauce.

‘To date, neither Champion Foods LLC nor our suppliers have received any reports of illness or injury related to these products,’ the company said in a statement.

‘Routine testing conducted by the seasonings blend manufacturer prior to use in the production of the 5 Cheese Bread showed that the seasonings batches tested negative for Salmonella.

‘However, we are taking action out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our customers.’

Sell dates between February 4, 2027, and April 21, 2027, have been recalled.

The recall affects both the single and double packs of the bread.

Salmonella is a bacterial infection that can cause diarrhea, fever, and stomach pains, the Cleveland Clinic said.

It is the most common form of food poisoning in the US. More than one million people get sick from it each year.

Most people contract it through undercooked chicken, but almost all uncooked food can be contaminated with it.

Symptoms can appear within a few hours to a few days after consuming the contaminated product.

The infection can last between three and seven days and is usually treated at home. For more severe cases, doctors may prescribe antibiotics.
