A $14 million makeover to paint the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool may have backfired.

The water turned a mysterious green this week, just as America’s 250th birthday approaches.

National Park Service workers responded to the greening by loading the water up with hydrogen peroxide. 

So why did the Reflecting Pool turn the shade of Elphaba from Wicked’s face?
