Cristiano Ronaldo could be playing football alongside his son in the near future

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr could share a pitch with his legendary father in the near future, with Al-Nassr considering fast tracking the 15-year-old to first team training next season.

Ronaldo, 41, has long expressed his desire to one day play professional football alongside his eldest son, who is enjoying a burgeoning career having represented Manchester United and Portugal at youth level.

The teenager followed his father to Saudi Arabia in 2023 and plays in Al-Nassr’s academy, but reports in Saudi Arabia claim club bosses are considering promoting the attacker to first team training for the 2026-27 campaign.

Earlier this year, former Real Madrid and United star Ronaldo said time is running out for him to fulfill his ambition to join an exclusive club of fathers who have played professional football alongside their sons.

The list includes Rivaldo with his son Rivaldinho, Henrik Larsson with his son Jordan and, dating back to the 1950s, George Sr and George Jr Eastham.

He said: ‘I would like it, I would like it. It’s not something that keeps me up at night, but I would like it. We’ll see. It’s more in his hands than in mine. The years are starting to pass and obviously Cris will have to, one day, leave football, because the years I’m extending… There will come a time when it’s no longer possible.

‘Not only physically but psychologically. But I also don’t see it as an obsession. He will follow his path, his trajectory. I will be a proud father, I will be proud of whatever he wants to do. If he plays, ‘top’. If he doesn’t play, we tried. At least his father tried hard. But it won’t be a problem either, in my opinion.’

Ronaldo Jr is a forward, like his iconic father, and can play on either flank or through the middle.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the 15-year-old had trained with Real Madrid’s academy with a view to a potential move to Spain in the future.

Although born in the United States, Ronaldo Jr has chosen to represent Portugal – earning his first call-up in their youth setup last May.

He made his debut against Japan in the Vlatko Markovic International Tournament and has since represented his country at U17 level.
