Report: The truth about Trump TV

‘Stone… stuff… White House… California… teleport… I suffer…’

That appeared to be what President Trump was saying on Monday as he stood on the White House’s new helipad, holding an oversized pair of gold ribbon-cutting scissors.

Exactly what he said was impossible to determine because the regular television pool crew was absent. Its highly sensitive boom microphones were among the casualties of the President’s continuing conflict with the media.

Instead, Trump shouted and gestured while Marine One’s rotor wash buffeted the helipad. He might have been announcing the annexation of Iceland or unveiling plans to build a Great Pyramid on the National Mall. There was no way to know; his remarks disappeared into the noise.

The extraordinary spectacle of Americans being unable to hear their President at a public appearance followed his decision on Friday to bar several outlets he branded ‘fake news,’ including CNN and MS NOW, from the White House grounds.

The remaining television networks that share responsibility for covering the President through the press pool subsequently announced a boycott.

Stripped of his usual media megaphone, Trump responded by declaring that he would create his own network: Trump TV.

White House Launches Trump TV

The move may have fulfilled an ambition Trump has held for years. In 2016, rumors circulated—incorrectly, as it turned out—that his presidential campaign was merely a publicity stunt designed to build attention for a television network he intended to launch.

With his poll numbers falling, an outlet devoted almost entirely to Trump may have appeared especially appealing: a channel without anchors adding critical context or experts offering what he might regard as defeatist analysis.

The White House promoted the arrival of ‘TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station’ on Monday night as a major event. Social media posts showed an old-fashioned television flickering to life, along with a satellite-dish van arriving at the executive residence.

A dramatic, minute-long commercial featured clips from iconic programs, with their characters apparently preparing to watch Trump TV.

Scenes from Seinfeld, Friends, Home Alone, The Simpsons and Family Guy were included in the advertisement.

In a social media post, the White House wrote: ‘Watch the Trump Administration’s biggest moments all in one place. Top videos, major remarks, and must-see highlights streaming 24/7 and updated in real time. Stay informed and stay up to date!’

The message continued: ‘Not every big moment has made it on your TV, now it can. Get real-time updates and live events streamed DIRECTLY to your phone. No noise. Just the news that matters most – straight from the Trump Administration.’

Source on Trump TV Plans

At first glance, the launch looked like an impulsive attempt to replace the role traditionally played by the independent press, including CNN.

However, Our News Outlet has learned that the project predates Trump’s latest confrontation with television networks.

According to a person familiar with the effort, the White House digital team had been developing a 24/7 streaming service built around the President’s ‘greatest hit’ speeches.

The service was created while the team tested a YouTube ‘Station’ feature for content creators.

When Trump excluded CNN and MS NOW and the other networks responded with their own boycott, officials in the Trump Administration viewed the dispute as the perfect opportunity to put the feature live.

Democrats swiftly denounced the project as a step toward despotism.

‘The President of the United States of America blocked access to the free press and launched state-run media,’ Gavin Newsom, the Democratic governor of California, said. ‘This is authoritarianism in action.’

Stephanie Grisham, Trump’s former press secretary during his first term, said: ‘You know who else does this? Russia, China, and Iran to name a few…’

Yet Trump TV, like several other heavily promoted Trump projects, turned out to be more modest than its launch campaign suggested—at least for now.

It is not a cable channel. In its current form, it is a stream hosted on the White House YouTube channel, featuring an endless rotation of old speeches by Trump and JD Vance.

A source familiar with the project told Our News Outlet that its long-term future remains uncertain, but there are no immediate plans to add news anchors, on-air personalities or interviews.

Trump TV Viewer Numbers Revealed

The service began on Monday night with a recording of Trump’s speech at Mount Rushmore from more than two months earlier, followed by his 2025 Inauguration address.

The exaggerated promotion may have included an element of trolling, but the project also appears to serve a broader political purpose.

By cutting out traditional media, Trump TV can deliver a constant stream of pro-Trump material directly to MAGA voters, potentially energizing supporters and boosting turnout in the midterm elections.

A White House spokesman described it this way: ‘The press, in some cases, reported inaccurately or not at all on the Administration’s many record breaking accomplishments on behalf of all Americans. Trump TV is a 24/7 livestream of the Administration’s greatest hits, unfiltered.’

Jameel Jaffer, executive director of the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, offered a sharply different assessment. ‘This just makes it even clearer that the real goal here is to ensure that the American public is fed a steady diet of government propaganda,’ he said.

Whatever purpose the channel ultimately serves, it is still experiencing what television executives would call ‘growing pains.’

The White House said downloads of its app surged to the top of Apple’s news-app chart after the digital team added Trump TV. It also said the launch video attracted more than 300,000 views on YouTube.

The livestream itself, however, started with roughly 8,000 viewers, a figure that had fallen by half less than two hours later.

By 2 p.m. on Tuesday, approximately 1,600 people were watching a recording of Trump’s dinner with farmers in the Rose Garden, filmed in June.

That was followed by a rerun of Vance’s July speech on anti-fraud measures in Wisconsin, which drew fewer than 1,400 viewers.

By 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, fewer than 600 people were watching a recording of an event held the previous Christmas.

Other Leaders’ Programs

Asked about the project on Tuesday, Vance said: ‘I’ll let the President speak to Trump TV and I’m sure there will be further forthcoming announcements on that particular topic.’

Trump’s effort to bypass traditional media and communicate directly with his political base follows a path taken by other leaders around the world.

One of the best-known examples is Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, whose weekend television program, ‘Aló Presidente,’ ran for more than a decade, with some episodes lasting several hours.

Trump TV also has a long way to go before matching the reach of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio program, ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ or ‘Conversations From the Heart,’ which attracts tens of millions of listeners.
