A couple in Malaysia reportedly identified their four-year-old son in a viral abuse video, leading to the arrest of a 60-year-old babysitter in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

According to Malay Mail, the woman was arrested at her home in Sendayan, Seremban on the night of May 21 after police received a report from the boy’s parents.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Alzafny Ahmad said the parents recognised their son after watching a video clip circulating on social media.

He said: “The parents became aware of the abuse after watching a one-minute 15-second video clip circulating on social media.”

According to Malay Mail, the footage allegedly showed a woman hitting a young boy behind a house and forcing him to sit outside.

Parents had reportedly sent boy to suspect’s home for 7 months

Alzafny said preliminary investigations found that the boy had been cared for at the suspect’s house, which was located near the family’s home, for around seven months, per Malay Mail.

He added: “The video shows a woman hitting a young boy at the back of a house, and the victim in the recording was confirmed by his parents to be their son.”

According to New Straits Times, the child could allegedly be heard crying and screaming in the footage after being left outside the house.

The woman was also allegedly seen threatening and slapping the boy.

The child was later taken to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital for medical examination and treatment, according to Malay Mail.

Babysitter arrested on the same night

Police said the woman was arrested at about 9:45pm on May 21 to assist with investigations.

According to Malay Mail, authorities are seeking a remand order against the suspect as investigations continue.

Alzafny also said police take child abuse cases seriously and urged the public not to spread unverified information that could interfere with investigations.
