Court
She has pleaded guilty to three charges.
A 28-year-old woman who suspected her 25-year-old boyfriend of infidelity reportedly threatened to post his nude photos and obscene videos when confronted.
Shin Min Daily News reported that she later apparently brandished a penknife during an argument about money and threatened to release his nude photos again.
Following this, the accused faces five charges, including threatening to distribute nude photos of others, breach of trust, and violating the Protection from Harassment Act.
The woman has pleaded guilty to three charges, with the remaining charges to be taken into consideration during sentencing, Shin Min reported.
In addition, a gag order has been issued to protect the identity of the victim, who was the accused’s boyfriend.
Suspected boyfriend of infidelity
This comes after the woman and her boyfriend began dating in 2023.
He sent her 20 nude photos and nine private videos during the time they were dating, according to Shin Min.
Later in June 2024, the woman who was checking her boyfriend’s phone discovered he was chatting with female classmates or former colleagues, which led her to suspect him of infidelity.
Shin Min reported that though her boyfriend denied being unfaithful when questioned, the woman threatened to upload his nude photos and private videos to Facebook.
Despite feeling threatened, he was reportedly afraid to call the police.
Argument over money
Subsequently, on Jan. 17, 2025, the woman demanded a face-to-face confrontation after arguing with her boyfriend over the phone.
They reportedly argued about money, Shin Min reported, adding that the boyfriend believed the woman was lazy, liked to stay at home without working, and asked him for money.
Unhappy that her boyfriend supposedly always talked about money, the woman pulled out a penknife, pointed it at his neck and asked him if he wanted her to release the nude photos.
Shin Min reported that she said: “Don’t bring up money with me again, I don’t like it.”
Her boyfriend eventually managed to calm her down, took the utility knife from her and went to work.
The woman then confessed her crime to a social worker, who called the police.
Misappropriated S$1,000
Separately, after someone mistakenly transferred S$1,000 to the woman’s bank account, she apparently did not return the money but spent it instead.
On Apr. 10, 2023, a 47-year-old woman reported to the police that she had mistakenly transferred S$1,000 to someone via PayNow on Mar. 3, 2023, according to Shin Min.
Upon contacting her bank to request a cancellation, she was reportedly told that the recipient did not agree to a refund, prompting her to make a police report.
Police eventually traced the account to the accused, who confirmed receiving the money, Shin Min reported, adding that she has not made any compensation to date.
Case adjourned
The prosecution stated during its submission that the accused’s psychiatric report indicated she suffered from major depressive disorder and had mild intellectual disability, and that her condition was related to her crime, according to Shin Min.
As such, the judge instructed the prosecution to prepare a further report to assess whether the woman was suitable for mandatory treatment (MTO).
The case has been adjourned to May 21 for sentencing, Shin Min reported.
