Ashley Graham's husband Justin Ervin candidly opens up about their marriage after 15 years together

Ashley Graham’s husband, Justin Ervin, has offered a rare glimpse into their marriage after 15 years together.

The 36-year-old filmmaker was in Park City, Utah, for the Sundance Film Festival, where he worked with critic Elvis Mitchell at The Elvis Suite, presented by Darling&Co. Ervin was filming a series of conversations with visiting filmmakers and stars.

DailyMail.com spoke with Ervin between takes as he shared his affection for his supermodel wife, 37, and their three sons: five-year-old Isaac and three-year-old twins Malachi and Roman.

Although he had spent eight days working away from home, the cinematographer said the trip was far from the longest period he has been separated from his family.

‘Being away for up to two weeks at a time isn’t unusual for me. I love my family.

‘I miss them, but they’re all back home supporting me and cheering me on,’ he told DailyMail.com during the interview on January 27.

The couple moved from New York City to the New Jersey suburbs in 2022.

Ervin described the Grahams as a ‘traveling family,’ joking that he and Ashley even compare their Delta SkyMiles balances.

‘Every family has its own rhythm and culture. In our home, we’re a very active family.

‘We travel a lot, and whenever the children can come along, it becomes a special experience,’ he said.

‘When we’re home, one of us enjoys stepping fully into the parenting role. So whether we’re at home or on the road, it’s full-on parent mode.’

He described their three sons, who have largely been kept away from the public eye, as ‘a ball of fun.’

‘Every morning feels like Christmas, and every night is WrestleMania,’ he said.

Asked whether the boys have shown an interest in modeling or entertainment, Ervin said the decision will ultimately be theirs.

‘You’ve seen them appear in campaigns, but we intentionally don’t show their faces.

‘Their identities belong to them, and we believe they should decide how they want to move through the world.

‘We’re proud of them and may share glimpses without revealing who they are, but we’ll leave that decision for another time,’ he told DailyMail.com.

‘Whatever they choose to pursue should come from their own interests and abilities.’

Ashley and Justin first met in 2009 while volunteering at a church event. They became engaged in June 2010 after Ervin proposed on the front steps of their Brooklyn apartment.

The couple married two months later in a private ceremony, choosing to have what Ashley described as a traditional wedding.

During the early part of their marriage, the pair spent considerable time apart. Ashley was based in New York, while Ervin worked in Los Angeles.

In a March 2016 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ashley said, ‘We have a rule: We don’t go longer than two weeks without seeing each other.

Justin told DailyMail.com that he and his wife 'don't show their [kids] faces intentionally,' referring to Isaac, five, and three-year-old twins Malachi and Roman

‘It’s wonderful. I love it. We meet in Los Angeles or New York, and sometimes in Paris or Miami. It’s pretty sexy.’

In a 2019 interview, she credited frequent sex as one of the secrets to their happy marriage.

‘Even when you don’t feel like it, just have sex. I’ve found that when we haven’t had sex, we get snippy. When we are having sex, we’re constantly all over each other.

‘For us, it’s simply, “Let’s have sex,” and suddenly we’re back in a great mood,’ she told Elle magazine.

After the twins were born in January 2022, Ashley said that Justin had undergone a vasectomy because they had decided not to have more children.

Looking back, Ervin called their marriage ‘very special’ and ‘unique.’

He told DailyMail.com, ‘I would describe it the way any husband might describe being married to his spouse for 15 years.

‘Our public profile adds an interesting layer, but when you’re in love, committed to each other and raising a family, there is a particular beauty that develops over 15 years. It’s something deeply special and unique to the two of you.’

Justin said of Ashley’s modeling career, ‘I’ve been happy to watch her and support her’

Ashley has spoken openly about the highs and lows of her modeling career, including the challenges she has faced over body image and working in an industry shaped by narrow beauty standards.

A prominent voice for body positivity, she has used her campaigns to encourage women to embrace their bodies. In 2016, she made history as the first size 14 model to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.

Asked which of her wife’s photo shoots had been his favorite, Ervin said it was difficult to choose.

‘There have been so many incredible milestones and memorable moments we’ve experienced together. I’ve simply been grateful to watch her career unfold and cheer her on,’ he said.

Ervin was also wrapping up his Sundance work, saying he felt privileged to collaborate with Mitchell once again.

‘I filmed his documentary, Is That Black Enough for You?!? for Netflix, and he invited me back to shoot this series with the many acclaimed filmmakers and performers appearing at Sundance. It’s been a great experience,’ he told DailyMail.com.

There is no confirmed release date or distributor for the Sundance series. However, several of Mitchell’s conversations have already appeared online, including interviews with Wicked star Cynthia Erivo and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino.

‘I really enjoyed the conversation with Questlove, as well as the one with [Kiss of the Spider Woman director] Bill Condon. Quentin was outstanding,’ Ervin said. ‘Bill Murray was incredibly open, and it was fascinating to see.’

The filmmaker is also developing a television series that he expects will be picked up ‘sometime in the fall.’

Ervin also revealed that he is preparing to release PowerNomics, a film he directed.

‘It tells the story of Dr. Claud Anderson, an economist who served under the [Jimmy] Carter administration. Now in his 80s, he developed a program focused on Black economic empowerment.

‘It’s an extraordinary story. Charlamagne tha God is executive producing, and we’re currently submitting the film to festivals.’

He is also contributing to a dance film for a ‘very high-profile New York dance company’ and will soon travel to Connecticut to shoot a documentary.

Ervin said he would love to return to Sundance one day with a film of his own.

‘As a rule, I don’t usually attend film festivals unless I have a clear reason to be there, whether it’s to show one of my films or, as I did at DOC NYC last year, to participate in a cinematography panel,’ he explained to DailyMail.com.

‘This opportunity with Elvis and Darling&Co. was different because I was there to film important conversations. Having a specific role gives you a place just beyond being an observer in the crowd.’
