Thomas Markle went to the 'Far East because 12-year-olds are legal there', ex-wife 'claimed in letter to Met'

Thomas Markle allegedly told his former wife that he travelled to the Far East because “12-year-olds are legal there”, according to a letter she is said to have sent to the Metropolitan Police.

Authorities are examining a collection of child sexual abuse images allegedly linked to Meghan Markle’s 82-year-old father.

Philippines Interior Minister Jonvic Remulla said forensic analysis was expected to be completed within about a week. He added that “all signs point to a possible sex offender of the grossest kind”. Mr Markle denies the allegations.

A newly uncovered letter allegedly written by Roslyn Loveless, his former wife of nine years, claims that Mr Markle admitted travelling to the Far East to have sex with young girls.

The seven-page letter, seen by The Sun and reportedly sent to the Metropolitan Police in 2019, describes a conversation that Ms Loveless, who died two years ago, claimed to have had with the Duchess of Sussex’s father.

She reportedly wrote: “I questioned Thomas Sr. He denied accusation but stated that he went to the Philippines and Thailand because 12-year-olds are legal there.”

The letter was addressed to Scotland Yard’s Fixated Threat Assessment Centre, which examines intelligence concerning threats to members of the Royal Family. It allegedly described Mr Markle as a threat to his daughter and her husband, Prince Harry.

The information was reportedly passed to the Sussexes. However, the Metropolitan Police did not investigate the claims made by Mr Markle’s former wife because they allegedly concerned events outside the United Kingdom.

The inquiry in the Philippines began after Mr Markle moved there in January 2025 seeking a “fresh start”. It was prompted when his son, Thomas Markle Jr, alerted the country’s National Police to an alleged collection of child sexual abuse images.

Markle Jr, 60, said he found the material while searching storage boxes at the home he shared with his father for a phone for his fiancée, Rose. He said one phone contained “vile” images involving children, while a computer displayed a screensaver featuring “hundreds” of sexual images.

According to reports, the alleged collection included videos involving girls believed to be no older than 10 or 11.

Mr Remulla said at the weekend that specialists were analysing data from Mr Markle’s laptop to “determine the contents and come up with a definitive picture”.

He added: “The Philippine National Police, upon the reports of the son, inspected the former home of a certain Mr Thomas Markle. Found were a trove of child pornography materials as well as a laptop.”

The minister said “appropriate legal actions” would follow if investigators found sufficient evidence.

Mr Remulla told The Guardian: “In these cases where family disputes are mixed up, we have to consider all the angles. Right now all signs point to a possible sex offender of the grossest kind. We want to be sure before we release the findings. The forensics data will be complete in a week.”

Asked about the minister’s description of him as a possible “sex offender of the grossest kind”, Mr Markle said: “I am not. I am innocent. I never did anything in the Philippines.”

The developments come as exclusive images taken by Our News Outlet show Mr Markle, 82, receiving a letter from Meghan that reportedly ended contact with his grandchildren.

The letter was delivered in December while he was in hospital, receiving treatment through a drip after undergoing a leg amputation.

The strongly worded message reportedly said Meghan knew her father had abused young girls and that he would never meet his grandchildren, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five.

Mr Markle told the Mail that his computers had not been in his possession since he left Mexico with his son and moved to the Philippines.

The claims follow reports on Sunday that Meghan had accused her father of child abuse in a letter sent last year.

The Mail obtained video footage of the letter being delivered while Mr Markle was in hospital in Cebu, in the Philippines.

The retired Hollywood lighting specialist was recovering from the amputation of his left leg below the knee, which was carried out because of a blood clot.

Mr Markle did not reveal the letter’s contents at the time.

He left the Philippines in May to enter a rehabilitation centre in Florida, while his belongings remained in Cebu with his son, Thomas Jr, who had been caring for him.

The Sun reported that Thomas Jr found “hundreds, if not thousands” of alleged child sexual abuse images in four boxes. He reportedly contacted Filipino detectives and the FBI in the United States, both of which are investigating.

One 35mm photograph allegedly shows a bearded man resembling Mr Markle having sex with a young Asian girl. Mr Markle has denied this, saying he had “never been in a photograph like that”.

Thomas Jr said: “When I found this material I was horrified and I had no option but to report my dad. I have supported, cared for him and helped him for years, but that stops now. I won’t speak to my father ever again unless I’m called to give evidence against him.”

He later added: “I’m so, so sorry Meghan.

“I now know I have been protecting the wrong person for the past nine years. Having seen what I’ve seen, I believe the man I’ve been defending and caring for is a monster.”

Following his report, Meghan said she had learned about allegations of child sexual abuse in 2019 after being contacted by the Metropolitan Police.

She said officers assured her that the “troubling and disturbing” claims were being investigated and advised her that speaking publicly could jeopardise any potential legal case.

The Metropolitan Police has since acknowledged that it failed to pass details of the alleged offending outside the UK to other law enforcement agencies, apparently including authorities in the United States, Mexico and the Philippines, where Mr Markle has lived.

The force is considering whether to refer the failure to the relevant regulator.

It remains unclear why the letter was sent to London when its allegations reportedly concerned “offending outside the United Kingdom”.

In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, Mr Markle denied all the allegations and said he would “do whatever it takes” to clear his name.

He acknowledged paying for sex in the Philippines but said: “I have never had sex with anyone under the age of 18.”

He added: “I have always dated age-appropriate women.”

Mr Markle said that, while single, he had visited the Philippines at least twice and “slept with prostitutes”. He added: “I like Asian women, but that is not a crime.”

He said he was willing to speak to police and believed any child-abuse images found on his computer had been “planted” as part of an attempt to damage his reputation. He also claimed Meghan had said nothing about the Metropolitan Police allegations for seven years before cutting contact with him.

Thomas Jr’s sister, Samantha, said: “Thomas Jr had possession of those boxes with Dad’s computers and phones. They were in storage places which God knows how many people had access to. I believe this is a set-up.”

Meghan has described the allegations as causing her “deep distress” and said they were “more sickening than one could ever imagine”.

She added: “My thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed.”
