The California Coastal Commission is notorious because it is manned by extremist environmentalists who would put the safety of an endangered mosquito above the needs of the residents of the Golden State. While its charter is noble — to protect California’s spectacular Pacific coastline — it is infamous for going above and beyond its duties.
Now, the Grinches are determined to take away joy this July 4th in Long Beach, a port city approximately 20 miles south of Los Angeles, as they’ve denied a fireworks permit. Apparently, they want people to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday by watching the clouds.
It might pollute the water, they say. Don’t tell them about the Tijuana sewage crisis, which officials have done nothing about for years, where billions of gallons of sewage and waste are being dumped into the Tijuana River in Mexico. That lovely flotilla then flows north into U.S. waters.
Sorry, patriotism not welcome here:
For the first time in 15 years, Long Beach’s “Big Bang on the Bay” will be lacking its signature “bang” after the event’s fireworks permit was denied by California state officials.
The annual Fourth of July celebration, which typically lit up the night sky over Alamitos Bay the night before Independence Day, will be without its famous fireworks show after the California Coastal Commission denied the permit, leaving city leaders toying with the idea of canceling the event altogether.
“Fireworks to me, it just seems like the best way,” said John Morris [who owns a waterfront restaurant]. “Any other option is going to be hard to rally as many people as we rally.”

This one p****s me off, because I’ve been down there for the 4th and it was awesome. We did a package dinner deal at the incredible Aquarium of the Pacific, then strolled out on the boardwalk to watch the show. My kids were younger at the time, and they loved it.
I guess Long Beach kids today can stay at home and watch fireworks from Florida or somewhere on TV.
The scolds on the commission are demanding that the display morph into a drone show, likely because they themselves are drones. Oh, and here’s another silly reason they’re denying the fun: the fireworks operation causes a parking lot next to a waterfront restaurant to be closed for the evening, impeding access to the coast.
How do these people look in the mirror every day?
Guess the Long Beach Post won’t need to update and publish this story this year:
ICYMI: Fireworks in Long Beach start today, July 3! https://t.co/fLLDhDLluq

Some environmental studies show that there can be minor pollution following a fireworks display, but that’s to be expected because almost all environmental studies show that the world is about to end. If they don’t say that, how will they get their funding next year?
Other studies show, however, that the effects are “low-impact” and are nothing compared to the damaging effects of storm runoff, urban fertilizers, industrial waste, sewage, and just regular old trash from people who can’t be bothered to clean up after themselves.
It sure is coincidental that 2026 is the year they pick to shut it down. It is, of course, America’s 250th b-day, an event that President Trump has touted relentlessly and has made plans for yuge celebrations.
Is the Coastal Commission worried about the water, or do they just want to thumb their nose at the president and patriots everywhere? You decide.
Editor’s Note: President Trump is leading America into the “Golden Age” as Democrats try desperately to stop it.
