Jamie Carragher had little time for Alexis Mac Allister’s ’embarrassing’ attempt to see Aston Villa rival Ezri Konsa handed his marching orders during Liverpool’s testy Premier League clash on Friday evening.
Chasing Villa’s 2-1 lead, Mac Allister tussled with Konsa off the ball, going down clutching his face after the defender had grabbed his shirt.
After VAR had checked for violent conduct and cleared the Villa star, Carragher had a short shrift for the Argentina player, accusing him of trying to draw similar fouls ‘every game’.
‘He does that every game. Embarrassing,’ Carragher said on Sky Sports as Mac Allister writhed on the turf. ‘Get him up.
‘I’d be embarrassed if they sent Konsa off for that.’
Liverpool’s night went from bad to worse shortly after the incident, with the hosts scoring just moments after to make it 3-1.

Later on in the tie, shortly before Liverpool’s defeat was confirmed, Carragher gave a brutally honest assessment of his former side’s woes.’
‘Far too many weak, physically and mentally players, he’s the man that is going to be asked to fix it Arne Slot.
‘This result does nothing for the feeling of supporters about his position now.’
Mac Allister had appeared to push Konsa first, before the England star responded in kind, eventually clutching at the front of his rival’s face.
But with little force, Mac Allister fell backwards to the turf, holding his nose as if he had been struck.
Pictures shown from the sidelines appeared to even show Mac Allister’s manager Arne Slot urging his player to get up.
On the pitch, as players surrounded Mac Allister, Virgil van Dijk attempted to haul him to his feet, before waiting for him to get up in his own time.
Aston Villa had opened the scoring in the first-half via a sumptuously placed strike from Morgan Rogers, but the visitors to Villa Park kept hope alive less than 10 minutes into the second-half thanks to a header from Van Dijk.
But soon after, Liverpool started to fall apart, with Ollie Watkins going on to bag a brace, and John McGinn score late on for Villa’s fourth.
