RJ Mitte's devastated sister pays tribute to 'my other half' after breaking down in tears at his memorial

RJ Mitte’s sister, Lacianne Carriere, has shared a heartbreaking tribute to her late brother and vowed to do everything she can to heal.

The Breaking Bad actor, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at around three years old, died by suicide on October 12 at the age of 34 at his home in Brownsville, Texas. His death left his mother, Dyna, 61, and his 22-year-old sister devastated.

“There are just no words,” Carriere wrote on Instagram beside a collection of tender throwback photographs. “You were just here. Your strawberry Fanta was still sitting on my coffee table when I got the call. Life hasn’t felt real since then.”

Carriere said Mitte had been much more than an older brother, describing him as a father figure—a role she also spoke about during his celebration of life last week, where she delivered a tearful eulogy.

“RJ, you were my everything. I just lost my other half. I lost my brother but I also lost my father,” she wrote.

“Every single aspect of my personality is because of your influence. My music taste, my film taste, the video games I love. Because of you I am a collector. You taught me that even the smallest piece of paper can be a precious memory later on.”

Carriere recalled how, since receiving the phone call, she had spent most evenings with Mitte’s closest friends, sharing stories and remembering his larger-than-life personality. “Since the phone call I’ve been sitting around with your closest people almost every night sharing the craziest stories that could never be said anywhere else and god that was just you. You were the life of the party, coolest guy that we all tried to keep up with but never could. You made me, me.”

Mitte’s sister also reflected on the many experiences they would never have the chance to share.

“We had so much more to do, so many more memories to be shared and I don’t know if my heart can ever be whole again after losing the biggest piece of it,” she wrote.

“I just really need my brother right now. You would put on some lofi music and tell me to get up and go sit in the shower, how it always makes you feel better.

“I know you’re telling me right now that I’ll be okay though I don’t know how I will. But I promise I’m going to do my hardest and I promise your love will always live through me until the day I see you again.”

Carriere ended her tribute with a simple declaration: “I loved you completely. And you loved me the same. That’s all. The rest is confetti.”

Her tribute follows an emotional memorial service on October 16, where Mitte’s younger sister broke down while delivering his eulogy.

Held in Brownsville, Texas, the service saw Carriere openly weep as she spoke about their close relationship. She explained that Mitte became a father figure after their single mother was paralyzed in an accident when Carriere was an infant.

“RJ was my older brother, but I didn’t only lose a brother—I lost my father,” Carriere said.

“My mom was a single mother and when I was two weeks old, she was in an accident that paralyzed her from the waist down for the first few years of my life.

“And my brother immediately took on the father role. I don’t have many words that I can put together but all I can say is that every part of me is RJ,” Carriere added.

Mitte lived with cerebral palsy throughout his life after being diagnosed at around three years old. He later became known for playing Bryan Cranston’s onscreen son, Walter Jr., in the hit drama Breaking Bad.

His mother, Dyna, spoke about the tragedy to The Hollywood Reporter, saying there had been concerns about her son’s mental health and that she had encouraged him to seek professional support.

“It was more about the conversations we were having—not just with me, but with his team and friends,” she said.

“There were concerns. That’s why I encouraged him to talk to a counsellor. I told him to talk to a therapist and share his feelings and how he saw things.”

Bryan Cranston, Mitte’s Breaking Bad co-star, also said in an Instagram post that he was in “deep despair” following the death of his television son.

“I met him when he was only 14 years old when he was cast as Walter White Jr., a part he played with such joy and enthusiasm,” Cranston wrote.

“Born with cerebral palsy, he never—ever—allowed that challenge to be an excuse for anything. He met the demanding shooting schedule head-on with great determination.”

Cranston said he and Mitte had remained in contact and had spoken only a few weeks earlier. “All that promise and potential now is such a loss. It is especially devastating to hear that he took his own life.

“Why? We were texting each other just a few weeks ago—figuring out when we could meet for lunch. I don’t know if that lunch would have changed his future.

“But I do know that I loved him, and thoroughly enjoyed being with him throughout the years on the series, and after the spotlight on Breaking Bad dimmed.”
