Tech billionaire allegedly had 'romantic relationship' with suspected Chinese spy, who the US believes could put Nvidia boss at risk of honey trap, report claims

Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang allegedly had a romantic relationship with a Chinese businesswoman suspected by US intelligence of spying for Beijing, according to a newly reported American intelligence memo.

The claim has fueled concerns that one of the United States’ most influential technology executives may have been targeted in a potential “honey trap” operation.

The 63-year-old billionaire was reportedly romantically involved with Alice Huang, an executive at Singapore-based Megaspeed. The two are not related.

Megaspeed, a significant Nvidia customer, was already facing scrutiny over allegations that it helped transfer restricted US-made microchips to China.

US intelligence officials believe Alice Huang was recruited by China’s Ministry of State Security, the country’s main civilian intelligence agency, to collect information about the Nvidia chief and potentially influence his business decisions.

The allegations were detailed in a Financial Times report, which said US officials had prepared a classified memo about the suspected relationship earlier this year.

The document, reportedly based on intelligence gathered by American agencies, was shared with a limited number of senior officials shortly before President Donald Trump traveled to Beijing in May for discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The account goes beyond earlier reporting by The New York Times, which said Huang had developed a “close relationship” with the Chinese executive but did not characterize it as romantic.

The Financial Times is the first outlet to report that the US government believes the relationship was intimate, adding to concerns that Huang may have been the focus of a Chinese intelligence operation.

It is not known whether US agencies believe Huang was aware of the woman’s alleged links to Beijing, or whether any confidential information was ever exposed.

Alice Huang has not been accused of knowingly assisting Chinese intelligence, and the alleged relationship has not been independently confirmed.

Nvidia has declined to comment on the reported romance or the existence of the intelligence memo.

The company has previously rejected suggestions that Huang’s dealings with Alice Huang were unusual, saying they were consistent with his duties as the leader of a global technology company.

“Jensen’s interactions with Ms. Huang are not unusual or unexpected,” a spokesman previously told Our News Outlet.

“Meetings with customers are part of a CEO’s job; Jensen talks with thousands of customer executives every year.”

The pair were photographed together at a Taipei bar in June 2024. Huang was wearing his trademark black leather jacket and drinking whiskey alongside other technology executives.

Alice Huang was seated beside him at the gathering, which took place after a technology trade show. NetThunder later posted photographs from the event on LinkedIn.

The two were reportedly seen together again in May 2025, leaving a Taipei restaurant after a dinner attended by artificial intelligence suppliers.

According to The New York Times, Alice Huang waited nearby while the Nvidia chief spoke to reporters outside the restaurant.

The alleged relationship has drawn particular concern because of Huang’s extraordinary influence over the global AI industry and his unusually close access to President Trump.

Nvidia, which is valued at more than $5 trillion, makes the advanced processors that underpin the development of sophisticated artificial intelligence systems.

The company’s technology is also central to Washington’s increasingly tense effort to stop China from obtaining chips that could strengthen its military capabilities.

Huang has repeatedly urged Trump to ease restrictions on Nvidia’s advanced chip sales to China. He has argued that allowing American companies to compete in the Chinese market would help them challenge domestic rivals such as Huawei.

He also personally pressed the president to authorize exports of Nvidia’s powerful H200 processors, despite objections from national security officials.

The Trump administration later approved certain sales under restrictive conditions, although shipments had reportedly stalled by the time of Trump’s May summit with Xi.

According to The New York Times, China’s intelligence service recruited Alice Huang to learn more about US artificial intelligence technology and potentially shape Nvidia’s position on supplying advanced processors to China.

Megaspeed was spun off from a Chinese gaming company in 2023 before expanding into the lucrative business of operating AI data centers.

The company has come under scrutiny amid suspicions that advanced Nvidia processors were diverted to China in breach of US export controls.

Nvidia previously investigated those allegations and said it found no evidence of wrongdoing.

The company has also said that regional cloud customers receive routine commercial information, rather than sensitive corporate secrets or material connected to US national security.

The reported intelligence assessment has nevertheless prompted calls for answers on Capitol Hill.

Republican representatives Brian Mast, John Moolenaar and Rick Crawford, who chair three influential House committees, have asked Huang to appear at a closed-door briefing on November 18.

Huang’s reported “close relationship” with the suspected Chinese spy has raised concerns in the White House and among US intelligence officials

The lawmakers want to question Huang about his dealings with Alice Huang and the safeguards Nvidia has introduced to protect against foreign espionage.

Their request follows earlier reporting by The New York Times that US intelligence agencies had electronically monitored Alice Huang for at least a year.

Trump was reportedly briefed last year on the Chinese executive’s suspected activities and her relationship with the Nvidia chief, but decided not to take action.

Despite those concerns, Huang has continued to maintain exceptionally close access to the president.

When Trump prepared to travel to Beijing in May, Huang was initially left off the delegation of American business leaders accompanying him.

Trump reportedly called the Nvidia chief after learning he was not included. Huang then traveled to Alaska and boarded Air Force One during a stopover.

Huang later attended the state dinner hosted by Trump for Xi during the Chinese president’s visit to Washington in September.

China has previously rejected the espionage allegations as unsubstantiated.

The Daily Mail has contacted Nvidia and the White House for comment.
