Andie Chen voiced his thoughts on his 11th Star Awards acting award loss, and the response to his thoughts.

In an Instagram post on Apr. 21, Chen said, “It seems the reports on my reaction to the loss have taken on a life of their own.”

The 40-year-old actor was nominated in both the Best Supporting Actor and the Most Hated Villain categories for his role as Hong Dashi, a police inspector in the Chinese time-travel drama Fixing Fate.

Both awards went to actors who starred in Mediacorp’s “Emerald Hill – The Little Nyonya Story”; the drama also took home 11 awards, the most of the night.

The former went to Tyler Ten for his role as a gangster in the series, and the latter went to Chantalle Ng for her part as Zhang Anna.

Been in industry for a long time

The local actor has been acting since he was 11 and has been working for Mediacorp since he was 19.

However, he has not won any Star Awards.

Chen has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor seven times, Best Actor four times and the Top 10 Most Popular Artistes award six times.

In an Instagram post on Apr. 19, Chen wrote in Mandarin that he had always thought an actor’s only job was to act well, but he noted that now that he was 41, “maybe it’s time I realise that the world just isn’t that simple.”

In the same post, he thanked his friends, colleagues and fans.

Other actors left words of encouragement in the comments section, including actress Hong Huifang and his wife, Taiwanese actress Kate Pang.

“In a good place”

In an interview with 8 Days, before his flight back to Taiwan, where he is based, Chen said, “I won’t attend next year. I need a break, lah. I think I have to start taking care of myself.”

“Ninety per cent of all the work I have done in my life is with the company. So, in a way, it is a little painful in that sense. When the message seems so loud and clear… I mean, I guess I get it… I get it.”

Chen said in his Instagram post on Apr. 21 that he was home with family and in a good place.

“All I wanted to express is that I do feel emotions from the loss, and I wanted to give those emotions the right to exist instead of suppressing them.”

He added, “All media interviews were done before this point. There will be a few more that haven’t been published yet.”

He thanked those who messaged and called him and said, “Now let’s move on to more important and positive things”.
